On Wednesday, July 12th, the 1st RoBoat Race (Autonomous Robotic Vessels Competition) took place successfully in Syros. The competition was organized by the SmartMove laboratory of the University of the Aegean, with the support of the Nautical Club of Syros, the Hellenic Institute of Nautical Technology, the Municipality of Syros-Hermoupolis, UNESCO, the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society and the European Commission
While building their solution for the Aegean Ro-Boat Races this summer, the student team of the Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering, are experimenting with the positioning and functionality of the boat thrusters. The selected positioning should offer the maximum velocity, while also having the minimum negative impact on the balance and offer the necessary maneuverability of the vessel.
Students from the Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering and members of the Smart MOVE Lab in Syros are working on the design and development of their prototype autonomous boat, which will compete in the Aegean Ro-Boat Races this summer. The boat is being built completely from scratch!
